Questions / Licensing and G1

Answer first · reviewed August 2026

Can I take the G1 test in another language?

Short answer

Knowledge-test language availability depends on the testing channel and current DriveTest options. English and French are available, with additional languages or interpretation arrangements in some situations.

Make it practical

What to do

Confirm language and interpreter rules directly with DriveTest before travelling to a centre.

Easy to miss

The common trap

Relying on an old forum list of languages and discovering at the counter that the process changed.

Turn knowledge into a habit

How to practise it

Put the official requirement into a simple timeline, including eligibility, waiting periods and your expiry date. Administrative surprises are rarely educational.

When a rule, road sign or examiner instruction conflicts with an internet tip, use the official rule and the safe decision. The internet has many talents; wearing a reflective examiner vest is not one of them.
