Start with the G1
The G1 is a written knowledge and vision test. Once you have it, you can practise only with a qualified accompanying driver and must follow G1 conditions, including zero alcohol and no driving on 400-series highways unless with a licensed instructor.
Move to the G2
The G2 road test checks core city-driving skills. The usual wait is 12 months after the G1, or 8 months after completing an approved beginner driver education course.
Finish with the G
The G test focuses on higher-speed and highway driving plus safe, independent decision-making. You normally need 12 months of G2 experience before attempting it.
Keep your expiry date in view
Ontario’s graduated licensing process normally must be completed within five years. Confirm your dates and booking rules with DriveTest because exceptions and extensions can change.
