What are the warning signs of a bad driving school?

Short answer

Ontario flags guaranteed licences, cash-only demands without receipts, improperly equipped training vehicles and offers to certify hours you did not complete. Pressure, unclear pricing and repeated unexplained cancellations are also worth questioning.

Make it practical

What to do

Verify approval, insist on receipts and a contract, and report suspected BDE fraud or serious instructor conduct through Ontario’s official complaint channel.

Easy to miss

The common trap

Ignoring a serious red flag because the test date is close or the package was cheap.

Turn knowledge into a habit

How to practise it

Ask the same written questions of two or three approved providers. Comparable answers reveal far more than a star score floating without context.

When a rule, road sign or examiner instruction conflicts with an internet tip, use the official rule and the safe decision. The internet has many talents; wearing a reflective examiner vest is not one of them.
