How do I use a centre median for a left turn?

Short answer

Enter only where permitted, position the vehicle so you do not block crossing traffic and treat each traffic stream as a separate decision when the median is wide enough.

Make it practical

What to do

Practise with an instructor on the exact median type; designs vary.

Easy to miss

The common trap

Stopping diagonally with the rear of the car still blocking the first roadway.

Turn knowledge into a habit

How to practise it

Name the hazard you are managing during practice, then repeat the decision in a different location. Good judgment should survive a new street name.

When a rule, road sign or examiner instruction conflicts with an internet tip, use the official rule and the safe decision. The internet has many talents; wearing a reflective examiner vest is not one of them.
