Should I rent my driving school’s car for the road test?

Short answer

An instructor’s car can be useful because it is familiar, has training controls and should be test-ready. It is not required; DriveTest allows an appropriate owned, borrowed or rented vehicle that meets requirements.

Make it practical

What to do

Compare the full test-day fee, pickup time, warm-up lesson and cancellation terms. Practise in the exact vehicle before test day.

Easy to miss

The common trap

Paying a premium for a car you have barely driven, then spending the test hunting for the wiper controls.

Turn knowledge into a habit

How to practise it

Ask the same written questions of two or three approved providers. Comparable answers reveal far more than a star score floating without context.

When a rule, road sign or examiner instruction conflicts with an internet tip, use the official rule and the safe decision. The internet has many talents; wearing a reflective examiner vest is not one of them.
