The current 2026 test format
As of August 25, 2026, DriveTest says the modified G test remains in place until further notice at full-time centres. It omits parallel parking, roadside stops, three-point turns and residential driving already assessed at G2. Part-time travel points continue to use the standard G test. Check DriveTest again close to your appointment.
Be ready for highway speed
A safe merge usually means using the acceleration lane to match traffic speed, choosing a gap early and completing a clear mirror-signal-blind-spot sequence.
Core G-test habits
Practise these until they stay consistent under pressure.
- Maintain a deliberate following distance
- Scan well ahead instead of fixating on the car in front
- Check mirrors regularly and before speed changes
- Choose safe gaps without unnecessary hesitation
- Exit smoothly and adjust to the new limit
Declare highway experience accurately
DriveTest may ask about recent highway experience before the test. If you have not had enough practice, reschedule rather than guessing or overstating it.
