Your path depends on the issuing country
Ontario has exchange agreements with some jurisdictions. Other applicants may receive credit for authenticated driving experience but still need knowledge and road tests.
The July 2026 rule for non-agreement jurisdictions
For applications from July 1, 2026, DriveTest says drivers from jurisdictions without an exchange agreement can receive a maximum of 12 months of verified foreign-driving experience. They must complete the G2 road test and then wait at least 12 months before the G road test. Check the official path for your issuing jurisdiction because agreement-country exchanges follow different rules.
Bring original evidence
Document requirements are specific and can include an original licence, translation and an authentication or experience letter. Check Ontario’s official rules before relying on a forum checklist.
Local practice still matters
Even an experienced driver should rehearse Ontario right-of-way, school zones, lane discipline, highway merging and the examiner’s observation expectations.
