Questions / Nerves and retests

Answer first · reviewed August 2026

I failed my G test. How should I prepare for the retest?

Short answer

Use the examiner’s report to identify whether the problem was merging, gap choice, speed, observation, lane changes or a specific traffic-law error. Rebuild that skill under supervision.

Make it practical

What to do

Repeat qualifying highway drives in different traffic and ask an instructor for a mock test if family feedback is vague.

Easy to miss

The common trap

Only replaying the reported route instead of the decision that caused the problem.

Turn knowledge into a habit

How to practise it

Use one mock-drive routine and one written improvement list. A smaller plan gives anxiety fewer loose objects to throw around the cabin.

When a rule, road sign or examiner instruction conflicts with an internet tip, use the official rule and the safe decision. The internet has many talents; wearing a reflective examiner vest is not one of them.
