Questions / G2 road test

Answer first · reviewed August 2026

Will touching the curb during parallel parking fail me?

Short answer

A light parking error is not automatically the same as mounting a curb, striking an object or losing control. The examiner assesses the full action and its safety impact.

Make it practical

What to do

Stop, observe and make a safe correction if needed. Calm recovery is a driving skill.

Easy to miss

The common trap

Assuming the test is over and mentally leaving the car while your body keeps driving.

Turn knowledge into a habit

How to practise it

Practise the skill on several unfamiliar roads until you can perform it safely without a prompt. The route can change; the habit must travel with you.

When a rule, road sign or examiner instruction conflicts with an internet tip, use the official rule and the safe decision. The internet has many talents; wearing a reflective examiner vest is not one of them.
