Questions / G2 road test

Answer first · reviewed August 2026

Can I turn right on red during the G2 test?

Short answer

Where permitted, you may turn right after a complete stop and only when the way is clear of traffic, pedestrians and cyclists. A red-light prohibition sign or unsafe gap means wait.

Make it practical

What to do

Stop before the line, scan, creep only if visibility requires it, then check again before turning.

Easy to miss

The common trap

Rolling behind the vehicle ahead because it already ‘checked’ for you.

Turn knowledge into a habit

How to practise it

Practise the skill on several unfamiliar roads until you can perform it safely without a prompt. The route can change; the habit must travel with you.

When a rule, road sign or examiner instruction conflicts with an internet tip, use the official rule and the safe decision. The internet has many talents; wearing a reflective examiner vest is not one of them.
