Questions / Parking and manoeuvres

Answer first · reviewed August 2026

Can I correct a parallel park during the test?

Short answer

A deliberate, observed correction is generally safer than leaving the car badly positioned or striking something. The examiner still evaluates control and observation.

Make it practical

What to do

Stop fully, scan around the vehicle and correct with small movements.

Easy to miss

The common trap

Rushing a correction because you assume the timer is a hungry crocodile.

Turn knowledge into a habit

How to practise it

Slow-speed control improves through short, frequent sessions. Stop whenever the setup becomes unsafe, observe again and correct deliberately.

When a rule, road sign or examiner instruction conflicts with an internet tip, use the official rule and the safe decision. The internet has many talents; wearing a reflective examiner vest is not one of them.
