Questions / Parking and manoeuvres

Answer first · reviewed August 2026

Where should I not make a three-point turn?

Short answer

Avoid locations where the manoeuvre is prohibited or unsafe, including poor visibility, hills, curves, busy roads, rail crossings and places where you would interfere with traffic.

Make it practical

What to do

Wait for the examiner’s location and instruction during the test; in normal driving, continue to a safer turning option.

Easy to miss

The common trap

Using the nearest driveway because it makes the manoeuvre easier.

Turn knowledge into a habit

How to practise it

Slow-speed control improves through short, frequent sessions. Stop whenever the setup becomes unsafe, observe again and correct deliberately.

When a rule, road sign or examiner instruction conflicts with an internet tip, use the official rule and the safe decision. The internet has many talents; wearing a reflective examiner vest is not one of them.
