Questions / Booking and test day

How long do Ontario G2 and G road tests take?
DriveTest says the G2 drive usually takes about 20 minutes and the G drive about 30 minutes. Those are driving times, not the length of your whole visit: arrive at least 30 minutes early and allow time for check-in, vehicle checks and results.
Plan the full visit
Driving time versus time at the centre
- Before the appointment: Arrive at least 30 minutes early. See the arrival guide.
- At the centre: Complete check-in and the required pre-test checks. Review the vehicle checklist before you leave home.
- After the drive: Allow time to receive your result and review the examiner's report. The full visit can take longer if the centre is busy.
Test lengths are typical, not guaranteed. Check your booking confirmation and find your DriveTest centre before travelling.
Make it practical
What to do
Plan your trip around the appointment and the early-arrival requirement, then leave a flexible buffer after the test. Check your confirmation for the centre's current instructions and practise a full mock drive without relying on an exact finish time.
Easy to miss
The common trap
Scheduling another commitment for 20 or 30 minutes after your appointment. Traffic, check-in and centre operations can make the visit longer.
Turn knowledge into a habit
How to practise it
Rehearse the logistics once: route to the centre, check-in information, vehicle controls and the backup plan if the test cannot proceed.
When a rule, road sign or examiner instruction conflicts with an internet tip, use the official rule and the safe decision. The internet has many talents; wearing a reflective examiner vest is not one of them.
