Questions / Booking and test day

Answer first · reviewed August 2026

What does the examiner check before a road test?

Short answer

The examiner performs a basic vehicle and identity check. Signals, brake lights, horn, plates, tires, windshield visibility and other safety items may affect whether the test proceeds.

Make it practical

What to do

Run a two-person light check the day before and again before leaving home.

Easy to miss

The common trap

Assuming a dashboard warning or broken light is harmless because the car still moves.

Turn knowledge into a habit

How to practise it

Rehearse the logistics once: route to the centre, check-in information, vehicle controls and the backup plan if the test cannot proceed.

When a rule, road sign or examiner instruction conflicts with an internet tip, use the official rule and the safe decision. The internet has many talents; wearing a reflective examiner vest is not one of them.
