Questions / Booking and test day

What is an ‘out-of-order’ Ontario road test?

Short answer

An out-of-order means DriveTest cancelled the appointment because the vehicle or applicant did not meet a test requirement. DriveTest says you lose 50% of the road-test fee and must pay the remaining 50% to rebook.

Make it practical

What to do

Check the official vehicle-requirements list the day before. Test the lights, horn and controls, clear the windshield, verify the plates and documents, and ask DriveTest about any warning light or unusual control before the appointment.

Easy to miss

The common trap

Using a borrowed car for the first time in the DriveTest parking lot.

Turn knowledge into a habit

How to practise it

Rehearse the logistics once: route to the centre, check-in information, vehicle controls and the backup plan if the test cannot proceed.

When a rule, road sign or examiner instruction conflicts with an internet tip, use the official rule and the safe decision. The internet has many talents; wearing a reflective examiner vest is not one of them.
