Questions / G road test

Answer first · reviewed August 2026

Can I use cruise control on the G road test?

Short answer

Ontario’s handbook says electronic driving aids, including cruise control, may not be used to demonstrate the tested skills.

Make it practical

What to do

Practise smooth accelerator control at highway speed in the vehicle you will use.

Easy to miss

The common trap

Leaving cruise engaged from the warm-up drive and noticing only after the examiner enters.

Turn knowledge into a habit

How to practise it

Build real highway repetition with a qualified supervisor. Merge, change lanes, follow and exit in different traffic instead of saving the entire experience for one mock test.

When a rule, road sign or examiner instruction conflicts with an internet tip, use the official rule and the safe decision. The internet has many talents; wearing a reflective examiner vest is not one of them.
