Questions / G road test

Answer first · reviewed August 2026

How much highway experience do I need for the G test?

Short answer

DriveTest requires you to declare recent experience on qualifying high-speed roads. Its current guidance asks about at least five trips in the previous three months and their approximate lengths.

Make it practical

What to do

Keep honest notes of practice trips and make them varied enough to include merging, lane changes and exits.

Easy to miss

The common trap

Inventing experience at the kiosk. If you are not ready, reschedule and get the practice.

Turn knowledge into a habit

How to practise it

Build real highway repetition with a qualified supervisor. Merge, change lanes, follow and exit in different traffic instead of saving the entire experience for one mock test.

When a rule, road sign or examiner instruction conflicts with an internet tip, use the official rule and the safe decision. The internet has many talents; wearing a reflective examiner vest is not one of them.
