Questions / G road test

Answer first · reviewed August 2026

When should I slow down on a highway exit?

Short answer

Maintain an appropriate highway speed until you enter the deceleration lane, then slow smoothly for the ramp’s advisory speed, curve and downstream limit.

Make it practical

What to do

Identify the exit early, signal, check, enter fully and then decelerate.

Easy to miss

The common trap

Braking in the live highway lane because the exit sign made you nervous.

Turn knowledge into a habit

How to practise it

Build real highway repetition with a qualified supervisor. Merge, change lanes, follow and exit in different traffic instead of saving the entire experience for one mock test.

When a rule, road sign or examiner instruction conflicts with an internet tip, use the official rule and the safe decision. The internet has many talents; wearing a reflective examiner vest is not one of them.
