Questions / G road test

Answer first · reviewed August 2026

What if there is no safe gap to merge during the test?

Short answer

You must not force another driver to brake or swerve. Adjust speed early to create or select a gap while using the available acceleration lane.

Make it practical

What to do

Practise reading gaps before the merge point and communicating with a timely signal.

Easy to miss

The common trap

Stopping at the end of a normal acceleration lane when continued speed adjustment was available.

Turn knowledge into a habit

How to practise it

Build real highway repetition with a qualified supervisor. Merge, change lanes, follow and exit in different traffic instead of saving the entire experience for one mock test.

When a rule, road sign or examiner instruction conflicts with an internet tip, use the official rule and the safe decision. The internet has many talents; wearing a reflective examiner vest is not one of them.
